From the earliest days of silent films to the effects-driven extravaganzas of the “Star Wars” films today, MUSIC has played a vital role in transporting audiences to scary places, sorrowful scenes, and heroic triumphs. Some of the music was inspired by romantic classical music, but like all things creative, artists/filmmakers wanted new, more “American” music to reach their audiences, and in the early 20th century New Orleans was spawning Ragtime, Jazz, The Blues, Classical and Caribbean musics, and even the roots of Rock and Roll. New Orleans pianist Tom McDermott leads the festival ensemble, including Harpist Martha Waldvogel, Cellist/Viola Da Gamba, Jordan Adam Young, Christopher Layer, and all the festival artists and students, through their paces as we explore two of the greatest musical cities in the USA: New Orleans and Hollywood!
